What This Extension Does

Schema Data Capture lets you draw a rectangle around text on any webpage, extract the text using OCR (optical character recognition), and optionally save captured data to a Google Sheets spreadsheet.

Data We Collect

This extension does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on remote servers. All processing happens locally in your browser.

• Screenshots: A screenshot of the visible tab is captured temporarily in memory to perform OCR on your selected region. The screenshot is discarded immediately after text extraction.
• OCR-extracted text: Text recognized from your selection is stored locally using chrome.storage.local until you clear it or the extension is uninstalled.
• Schema configuration: Your field definitions and Google Sheets settings are stored locally using chrome.storage.local.
• Google OAuth token: If you connect to Google Sheets, an OAuth2 access token is obtained through Chrome's built-in identity API. The token is managed entirely by the browser and is never stored or transmitted by the extension itself.

Third-Party Services

The only external service this extension communicates with is the Google Sheets API, and only when you explicitly choose to save data to a spreadsheet. The extension acts on your behalf using your own Google account credentials. No data is sent to any other third party.

Permissions Explained

• activeTab: Access the current tab to capture a screenshot of the visible area when you initiate a capture.
• storage: Save your schema configuration and captured data locally.
• sidePanel: Display the data capture panel alongside webpages.
• offscreen: Run the OCR engine in a background document (required by Chrome's Manifest V3).
• identity: Authenticate with your Google account for Sheets access.
• scripting: Inject the selection overlay onto the current page when you start a capture.
• tabs: Capture a screenshot of the visible tab area.
• Host permissions (optional): Requested on a per-site basis to enable the capture overlay on that site.

Data Retention

All data is stored locally on your device. You can clear captured data at any time from the side panel. Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data.

Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
